Loud humming or stalling with a warm engine?
An increasingly loud humming pump, difficult starting when warm or hesitation at full load are the classic warning signs of failure. Measure the pressure and flow before replacing and rule out a clogged fuel filter. On modern petrol engines, note the difference between the electric in-tank pump and the mechanical high-pressure pump on the engine — both are in this category, and the OE number points the way.
