Subaru suspension

Four-wheel drive does not forgive a crooked setup

With permanent four-wheel drive, every deviation in the geometry affects all four wheels: uneven tyre wear and a steering wheel that pulls are the first signs. So replace worn-out lateral links or control arms as a set and have the car aligned immediately afterwards. If you want more ground clearance for unpaved roads instead, the lift kits raise your Forester or Outback by 2 to 3 inches; if you lower the car, camber plates keep the wheel geometry within specification. Dull thumps over speed bumps point to rubbers, bouncing to tired dampers.
