Volkswagen suspension
Volkswagen drivers will find suspension parts here for the Golf (IV through VIII), Polo, Passat, Touran, Caddy, Tiguan, Touareg, Transporter and Up, among others. The collection includes shock absorbers and complete struts, control arms and wishbones, wheel bearings and wheel hubs (with or without ABS sensor), steering knuckles, strut bearings and strut mounts, sway bar links, lowering springs and wheel spacers. Wheel bearing press tools and pullers for the VAG platform are also available separately.
Recognising wear on the Golf, Polo and Passat
The front control arm bushings are a classic wear point on the Golf: you notice it by a dull thump when accelerating or braking and by a car that 'wanders' over road ruts. A popping or clicking noise at full steering lock usually belongs to a ball joint, while a droning tone that grows with speed points to a wheel bearing — on the Golf 5/6 and Caddy, bearing and hub conveniently come together in one unit. If the rear keeps bouncing with a full boot, the rear dampers are due for replacement. The big advantage of the VAG platform: many parts fit multiple models and model years, so check the OE number and you can be sure it fits. Replace struts, bearings and arms in axle pairs and align the car afterwards.
