Which turbo suits your power target?
Choose the turbo based on engine displacement and desired power, not on size alone. For 1.5-2.0L engines up to around 350 hp, a T25/GT28 is a logical choice with quick response; a T3/T4 or GT30 suits 1.8-3.0L and 300-500 hp; the GT35 and GT45 are intended for large six- and eight-cylinder engines. Pay attention to the A/R value: a smaller turbine housing A/R spools up earlier, a larger one gives more top-end power. Ball bearing turbos respond faster and tolerate higher revs, journal bearings are robust and affordable. Always allow for supporting work: the fuel system, engine management and cooling need to grow along with it.
