Rattling over speed bumps? Check the sway bar links
A ticking or rattling noise on poor road surfaces and over speed bumps comes, in most cases, from worn sway bar links: the small ball joints develop play and rattle over every bump. Test by moving the link by hand — noticeable play means replacement. Always do this on the left and right at the same time; the other side is just as old and will otherwise follow within a few months. Worn sway bar bushings tend to produce a dull groan when turning in instead.
