Ticking noise on cold starts or a swirl flap fault code?
A ticking or blowing noise that disappears once the engine is warm points to a cracked exhaust manifold or leaking gasket. On modern diesels, the swirl flaps in the intake manifold are the weak spot: soot and oil deposits make them seize, followed by a fault code and loss of power. A complete new manifold with actuator is then the lasting solution.
