Creaking at the top of the strut? Think of the strut mount
A creaking or grinding noise when turning the steering wheel, especially at low speed, often points to a worn strut mount at the top of the strut on the Astra and Corsa. If you are replacing the shock absorbers anyway, include the mounts straight away: the strut is out of the car in any case and you avoid doing the job twice. A droning tone that grows with speed and changes through corners belongs to a wheel bearing — on the Astra H it comes complete with the hub in one unit, which speeds up fitting considerably. Rattling over speed bumps usually comes from the sway bar links. Replace in axle pairs, left and right together.
