    Cylinder heads & valves

    The valvetrain controls the engine's gas exchange: valves, rocker arms, valve springs and valve lifters work together to open and close the intake and exhaust ports at exactly the right moment. In this collection you will find individual valves (for example intake and exhaust valve sets for the VW/Audi 1.2-1.6), rocker arm sets such as the 16-piece set for the VW Polo, Audi A3, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia, plus complete cylinder heads and valve covers for BMW, Mini, VW Transporter, Ford Transit and Nissan YD25, among others.

    Ticking engine on a cold start?

    A ticking noise that fades after a few minutes is often caused by worn hydraulic valve lifters losing their oil pressure. If the ticking persists, also check the rocker arms and valve clearance. After a snapped timing belt the valves are usually bent: replace the valve guides and valve stem seals at the same time and have the head skimmed. A leaking or weathered valve cover gives itself away through oil traces along the head — always fit a new gasket during installation.
