Tailgate sinking slowly or not staying open?
A gas strut loses pressure gradually: at first the tailgate no longer stays open in cold weather, later it sinks back even in summer. Always replace gas struts in pairs, as the other one is just as old as the failed one. On electric tailgates (power lift), the spindle drive is built into the strut itself; if the motor hums without the tailgate moving, that spindle is worn.
