City driving and speed bumps: where a Fiat wears fastest
Short trips, cobblestones and speed bumps are exactly the diet on which dampers and top mounts wear out. A dull clunk at the top of the strut over bumps points to a worn mount; replace it at the same time as fitting new shock absorbers, since the strut is out of the car anyway. If the rear of your Panda or 500 bounces on poor road surfaces, the rear dampers are due. For the heavily loaded Ducato: check the mounts at every damper change. Always work per axle, left and right at the same time.
