Citroën CHRA / cartridges
Anyone overhauling a turbo usually replaces the CHRA cartridge: one balanced unit of shaft, compressor wheel, turbine wheel and bearing housing that is fitted into the existing turbo housing. For Citroën the emphasis is on the 1.6 HDi (C3, C4, Berlingo, Xsara), the 2.0 HDi of the C4 and C5, the 2.2 HDi from the Jumper and C8 and the smaller 1.4 HDi. If you drive petrol, you will also find the 1.2 PureTech and 1.6 THP of the C3, C4 and DS models here. Tip for the 1.6 HDi: always replace the oil feed pipe during fitting, because the small strainer inside it clogs regularly and will otherwise cost you your new cartridge as well. Select by the OEM or turbo number of your old turbo, for example 53039880394 for the BV43 of the C4/C5 2.0 HDi.
